Jameel Observatory’s Guyo Malicha Roba joined Impact Room podcast host Maysa Jalbout to discuss hunger and malnutrition and what philanthropy can do to mitigate contributing factors such as climate change and provide longer-term funding to address systemic issues rather than just emergency relief.
He explained some of the impacts of climate change on people in East Africa’s drylands, showing how drought causes livestock deaths which, in turn contributed to losses of income, as well as increased malnutrition and school dropout rates in children. He introduced the work of the Observatory, the importance of its philanthropic funding model, and its focus on tackling tomorrow’s threats through early actions ‘today’ on 5 challenge questions.
